POINT SELECTION

Needle ST25, ST36, CV6, TE5 and LI11 with even or tonifying method, retaining for 20 minutes. Abdominal massage in a clockwise direction follows the treatment.

RATIONALE

ST25 and ST36 move the intestines without draining them; CV6 tonifies qi so that the patient has the strength to defecate; TE5 and LI11 clear the yangming and moisten the tract. The point of the prescription is that constipation of this kind is a problem of propulsion, not of dryness, and must not be treated with purgative methods.
