Needle SI3, GB20, LI4 and GV14 with reducing method. The patient is asked to move the neck gently while the distal needles are manipulated.
Stiff Neck: Qi Stagnation in the Channels
Relax the sinews, free the collaterals, release spasm and stop pain. For sudden neck pain on waking with difficulty turning the head.
POINT SELECTION
RATIONALE
SI3 opens the Governing Vessel and is the distal point for the posterior neck; GB20 releases the upper neck; LI4 is the command point for the head and face; GV14 frees the region where the yang channels meet. Moving the neck during manipulation, the classical method of directing the effect to the moving part, is what makes the treatment take effect quickly.
