Moxibustion Protocols for Common Conditions

Cold stomach pain, dysmenorrhoea, diarrhoea, asthma, facial paralysis, prolapse and malposition.

These protocols show how moxibustion is applied where cold and deficiency predominate. Cold stomach pain uses CV12 and ST36 with ginger moxibustion; dysmenorrhoea uses CV4, SP6 and LR3 with warming; chronic diarrhoea uses CV8 with salt moxibustion and ST36; asthma in remission uses GV14, BL13 and CV17; facial paralysis uses local points with mild-warm moxibustion once the acute phase has passed.

Prolapse of the rectum uses Baihui (GV20), the classical point for lifting. Malposition of the fetus is treated by moxibustion at BL67, a technique with a genuine body of trial evidence and a clear contraindication to its use where the position is already correct.
